The Dirty Dozen, explained
Two teams. A handful of events. Every hole is worth a point, and every point rolls into one season-long score. This page walks through the whole thing — how events and matches are built, how captains draft lineups, how scoring works, why your handicap matters, and who runs what.

Roster status
Every player sits in one of three buckets on their team. Status is set by an admin on the Roster page.
In the regular rotation. Counted in the team's A/B split.
On the roster but not in the current rotation. Still counted in the A/B split.
Backups/fill-ins. Excluded from the official A/B split so they don't shift it.
The loop
How an event runs, start to finish
This is the cycle that repeats for every event on the schedule. Each step is owned by someone specific — admins build the structure, captains fill it in, players play it.

Structure
Events contain matches
Event (a round)
One outing — a course, a date, a round number. The Dashboard lists every event in the season with its running score.
- · Created and edited by admins
- · Holds one or more matches
- · Each captain finalizes their lineup once per event
Match
One head-to-head inside an event: a group from each team, playing one format, over 18 holes.
- · Has its own format and its own tee time
- · Has exactly one scorecard, shared by both sides
- · Worth 20 points, split between the two teams
How it nests
Match 1
2 players from each team
20 pts on the line
Match 2
2 players from each team
20 pts on the line
Match 3
2 players from each team
20 pts on the line
Tee times belong to the match, not the event — different matches in the same event go off at different times.
The draft
Pairings are blind until both sides commit
Captains build their lineup without seeing the other team's. Nothing is revealed until both captains have finalized — so neither side can react to the other's draft.
Captain drags players from the bench into each match, then hits Finalize.
Until this side finalizes too, the Match Hub stays locked for everyone.
One side ready
Match Hub shows “Pairings Locked” with a per-team ready indicator. No names, no matchups.
Both sides ready
Everything unlocks at once: matchups, handicaps, tee times, and live match status.
Admins can see pairings before the reveal — the Match Hub shows an “Admin bypass” badge when that's happening, so it's never silent.
Match types
The formats
Whatever the format, the scorecard records one number per side, per hole — the score that side is playing for that hole. The format decides how your group arrives at that number.
| Format | What your group does | Score you enter |
|---|---|---|
| Best Ball | Everyone plays their own ball the whole way. | The lowest score in your group on that hole. |
| Shamble | Everyone hits a drive, you all play from the best one, then own ball in. | The lowest score in your group on that hole. |
| Scramble | Everyone hits, you pick the best shot, and all play from there — every shot. | The group's single team score. |
| 4-Man | Four-player team format, played blind against the other side. | The group's single team score — the opponent's is hidden until you enter yours. |
| A/B | One Class A player pairs with one Class B player. | The lower of the pair's two scores on that hole. |
| Solo | Straight singles — one player per side. | Your own score. |
4-Man is blind. You won't see the other side's number for a hole until you've entered your own. The scorecard shows a padlock instead. Every other format shows both scores as they land.
The math
Every match is worth 20 points
18 points are on the table hole by hole, plus a 2-point bonus for winning the match overall. That's 20 points per match, split between the two teams.
Anatomy of 20 points
One point per hole, awarded to whichever side had the lower score.
To whichever side won more hole points once all 18 are in.
You win the hole outright.
The hole is halved and the point is split.
The full point goes to the other team.
How the 2-point bonus is decided
Gate: all 18 holes must be entered for both sides. Until then the bonus is 0–0 and the match total sits below 20.

Worked example
Your side wins 9 holes, loses 6, and halves 3.
holes won 9 × 1.0 = 9.0
holes halved 3 × 0.5 = 1.5
holes lost 6 × 0.0 = 0.0

Entering scores
- Tap a hole on your side's row and pick a number. 2–8 are one tap; anything outside that uses the +/− stepper.
- Anyone playing in the match can enter that side's score — you don't have to be the one who made it. Only admins can edit the opposing side.
- Scores save instantly and push live to everyone else's screen. If a save fails, the number rolls back and you get an error — it never quietly disappears.
- Made a mistake? Tap the same hole again and pick the right number.
Keeping score
Standings & the MVP race
Team standings
Every match's points are added to the team that earned them. The Dashboard shows the season total for each team, plus a per-event breakdown and the raw count of holes won.
League MVP
Each player is credited with the full point total their side earned in every match they played — hole points plus any match bonus. Play more matches and win them, and you climb.
Why it matters
Your handicap
Matches are played and scored gross — no strokes are deducted anywhere in the app. So why does your handicap matter? Because it decides your class, and class drives how teams are balanced and drafted.
It sets your A/B class
Within each team, players are sorted by handicap. The better half are Class A, the rest Class B.
It shapes the draft
A/B matches require one Class A and one Class B player. Your class decides which slots you're eligible for.
It keeps things fair
Captains see handicaps and skill ratings when drafting, so lineups are built on real information.
How A/B class is calculated
- 01
Take the team
Active + bench players. Taxi-squad players are left out of the split.
- 02
Sort by handicap
Lowest handicap first. A missing handicap sorts last.
- 03
Split down the middle
The better half become Class A; the rest are Class B.
- 04
Recalculated automatically
Any handicap edit, roster move, or status change re-ranks the whole team.

BThree lowest handicaps → Class A. Three highest → Class B. If someone's handicap changes, the line moves and classes update on their own.
Don't know your exact handicap? Put in your best estimate and tick Estimated handicapon your profile. That flags it so captains and admins know it's a guess — a blank handicap sorts you to the bottom of your team and skews the A/B split for everyone.

Loose ends
Common questions
My Scorecards is empty. Did I do something wrong?
No — it fills in once a captain pairs you into a match and both captains finalize. Before that there's nothing to show.
Match Hub says “Pairings Locked”.
One captain hasn't finalized their lineup yet. The card shows which team is still deciding. Everything unlocks the moment the second one commits.
Do I get strokes for my handicap?
No. Matches are scored gross. Your handicap determines your A/B class and informs how captains draft — it doesn't adjust your score.
Someone else entered our score. Is that allowed?
Yes. Anyone playing in the match can enter their side's score for a hole. It's one number per side, so whoever has their phone out can do it.
Why is our match total under 20 points?
The 2-point match bonus only lands after all 18 holes are entered for both sides. Fill in the missing holes and it appears.
I can't see the other team's score in a 4-Man.
That's the blind format working as intended. Enter your own score for that hole and theirs appears.
My handicap is wrong.
Fix it on My Profile. Your team's A/B classes re-rank automatically as soon as you save.
I need an event, match or old score changed.
That's an admin job — see Who holds which role above.
That's the whole thing.
Next step: make sure your profile is filled in so captains can draft you properly.
